Where is Via Ferrata Loen located? Via Ferrata Loen takes its name from the place, where it was set up. Loen is a village in the Vestland County of Norway. The village was built right on the shore of the Innvikfjord and at the entry of two beautiful valleys: Oldedalen and Lodalen.

Via Ferrata Loen is a via ferrata that takes you from Loen to the Hoven mountain. The tour can only be completed with a guide. Once at the top, a cable car takes you back down.

You can climb Loen Via Ferrata with a guide through Loen Active, or, if you are experienced with these types of routes, you can also do it by yourself. If you don't have the equipment, you can rent it from Loen Active for 450 NOK.

A memory to last a lifetime! In August 2019, we packed the family, (two adults and two children aged 11 and 13), into a camper van, heading for Loen, the little town at the heart of the Nordfjord in the municipality of Stryn. Loen is about a 10 minute drive from Stryn, 2.5 hours from Ålesund, 4.5 hours from Bergen and 6 hours from Oslo.

The Loen Via Ferrata opens on May 1st and closes around October 31st. This is due to weather and snow conditions along the route. You will want to go on a clear day to see the fjord below, this is the best part of the climb.

Via Ferrata Loen is an organised climbing route from Loen to the mountain Hoven. You will complete this route with a guide. There is a cable car that takes you back down when you reach the top.
Via Ferrata Kicking Horse Mountain Resort
We took the Via Ferrata Loen route but there's also a black route which you can arrange to do if you're an experienced climber. Our route included a whole lot of vertical climbing, the Gjølmunne suspension bridge (longest via ferrata bridge in Europe, 120 m long), Gjølmunne wirebridge (36m long) and a snowy finish.
